Lead the Charge. Shape the Future. Stay the Course.

Since launching in May 2023, Houston Loves Teachers has grown into a powerful community rooted in connection, celebration, and collective purpose. Now, as we enter our next chapter, we’re building something even bigger—and we want you to be part of it.

We’re launching our first-ever Teacher Leader Cohort—a dynamic group of educators who will help shape the future of this movement, grow as powerful leaders on and off campus, and become champions for what’s possible in public education.

Whether you’ve already stepped into leadership or are just beginning to discover your voice, this is your opportunity to join a diverse network of teachers committed to elevating the profession and leading Houston forward.

All applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. To receive priority consideration, we encourage applicants to apply by Monday, June 23rd. Applications submitted after this date will be considered on an as-needed basis, pending availability.

ARE YOU READY TO LEAD THE CHARGE?

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

We’re building a cohort of teacher leaders who reflect the diversity, brilliance, and bold spirit of Houston. Whether you’re early in your career or a seasoned veteran, this opportunity is for educators who are ready to grow, lead, and help rewrite the narrative of public education in our city. The ideal candidate is someone who:

Believes in what’s possiblefor the profession, for students, and for Houston.

You’re not content with the status quo. You see the challenges in education clearly and are ready to be part of the solution, not just the conversation. You know things can and should be different. You believe in Houston’s students, public schools, and the power of teachers to lead real change.

Leads with purpose, even without a title.

You show up for your students, your colleagues, and your community. You’re willing (or willing to learn) to use your voice, take initiative, and help drive a positive culture on your campus and beyond. Title or not, you’re ready to shape culture, uplift your peers, and be a face of hope for Houston education.

Craves growth—and welcomes the hard stuff that comes with it.

Whether you’re a first-year teacher or 15 years in, you’re still learning. Still evolving. Still in pursuit of being the best version of yourself—for your students, your team, and yourself.

You’re down for honest conversations, meaningful reflection, and giving & receiving feedback. You’re ready to stretch, grow, and help others do the same.

Brings heart, humor, and hype.

You’re the kind of person who shows up and brings energy to the room. You’re serious about the work—but never take yourself too seriously to have fun along the way.

Understands the privilege and responsibility of being a teacher.

You know this was never just a job. You see your role as vital and core to our community—and you’re ready to use your role to make lasting impact.

WHAT’S THE APPLICATION PROCESS?

We’ve kept the application simple, reflective, and meaningful—just like the experience we’re inviting you into. Here’s what to expect:

Step 1: Submit Your Application
Tell us a bit about yourself—your background, your teaching experience, and what drives you. You’ll also answer four short reflection questions that help us get to know you beyond the resume:

  • What should we know about who you are, what you value, and what kind of spaces help you show up as your best self—personally and professionally?
  • Why are you interested in being part of this teacher leader cohort? (What do you hope to learn, do, or impact through this experience?)
  • Tell us why you became a teacher and what keeps you coming back – OR – Describe a moment in your teaching journey that shaped your identity as an educator.
  • What does being a leader mean to you?

There’s no formal word limit, but we recommend keeping responses under one page (approx. 500 words). That said, your story matters—take the space you need.

Step 2: Interview Invitation

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. If selected to move forward, you’ll be invited to a 30-minute virtual interview with Stefanie to share more about your experience and interest in the cohort. Be sure to include reliable summer contact info so we can reach you.

Step 3: Reference/Recommendation Check
Applicants moving forward after the interview will be asked for 1–3 references or letters of recommendation. These can also come from a prior supervisor, fellow teachers, former students, parents, or others who’ve worked closely with you.

Step 4: Timeline + Next Steps
We aim to notify all applicants of their status as they move through each step of the process. Not everyone will advance through all rounds, but you will hear from us either wayOur goal is to finalize the full cohort by July 18th, though we’re committed to choosing the right people—even if that means extending the timeline.
