The Houston region features some of the top programs in the state from undergraduate institutions and master’s programs to alternative certification programs. The best pathways to teaching provide relevant coursework, coaching, and support so that you have the skills you need to thrive in the classroom. Many of these top programs in the Houston area programs are low-cost and free!

What is a Teacher Residency Program?

Many Houston area teacher prep programs offer residencies—a unique way to prepare future teachers for the challenges and opportunities of teaching. In a residency program, you’ll learn alongside an experienced teacher in your community while working toward your certification. 

Paid teaching residencies are available to undergraduate students pursuing their degree in education and to career changers looking to earn their master’s degree while learning from the best teachers in the city.

Good Reason Houston and the College Football Playoff Foundation, with support from the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority’s local Host Committee, launched the campaign to help support teacher recruitment and recognition in Houston. Our city is struggling to fill teacher vacancies and current teachers need more support from the community. This campaign aims to bring more talent to Houston and reward those hard-working teachers who devote themselves to educating our future generations.

The campaign was launched by Good Reason Houston and the College Football Playoff Foundation with support from the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority’s local Host Committee. These partners are committed to education and education efforts through their focus areas, and they add multiple layers of resources to the campaign to create amazing opportunities for Houston teachers.
